Take-Two Interactive, the folks who own Rockstar Games, have officially supported the decision to push Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) to 2026. After months of rumors, longtime fans weren’t too shocked when Rockstar shared their apology about the delay. At first, people thought GTA VI would be a huge hit that would drive sales of the PlayStation 5 Pro, with experts guessing that hardcore gamers would grab the best hardware to enjoy this big exclusive title on their home consoles.

The publisher was hoping for a massive sales boom in 2025, thanks to Rockstar’s huge open-world game. With the new release date set for May 26—falling in the next financial year—Take-Two’s leaders are still optimistic, even without GTA VI this year. Strauss Zelnick, the company’s chairman and CEO, says they’re fully behind Rockstar taking extra time to perfect their creative vision. “This game is set to be an amazing, groundbreaking experience that’ll blow fans away,” he shared. “We take delays seriously and know how much excitement there is worldwide for GTA VI, but we’re committed to making it excellent. As we roll out our awesome lineup of other games, we’re confident we’ll see steady growth and great value for our shareholders over the next few years.”
