Microsoft just gave its classic Notepad app a nice little upgrade! If you’re a Windows Insider in the Canary or Dev Channels on Windows 11, you can now try out Notepad version 11.2504.50.0, which brings basic text formatting to this simple text editor. It now supports Markdown, letting you type Markdown syntax and switch between a formatted view or the raw syntax using the view menu. This might seem like a small change, but it’s part of Microsoft’s plan to make Notepad more useful for light editing without turning it into a full-blown editor like Microsoft Word.

You might remember that Microsoft recently added Copilot, its AI assistant, to Notepad. With this new update and Copilot together, you can now do simple text tasks more easily—like fixing grammar, spelling, or even Markdown errors as you go. It’s a thoughtful step to make Notepad a bit more powerful while keeping it straightforward for everyday users.
What do you think about these updates to Notepad? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
