Looks like some exciting news for Final Fantasy fans! In a recent video, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi hinted that the entire FF7 remake series could be heading to the Switch 2.
During Nintendo’s reveal of their new console, Square Enix shared that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be coming to Switch 2, though they haven’t given a release date yet. That’s just the first part of the trilogy, with the second part, Rebirth, already out on PS5 and PC.

Nintendo’s latest Creator’s Voice video features Hamaguchi, who sounded thrilled about working on a Nintendo system. What caught everyone’s attention was how he kept mentioning not just Final Fantasy 7 Remake, but the whole series. Talking about the Switch 2’s tech specs, he said he believes “it has enough power to run the Final Fantasy 7 remake series” he’s working on. He also shared that this is his first time developing for a Nintendo console, saying, “And the fact that it’s the Final Fantasy 7 remake series—considering the original game inspired me to get into the gaming industry—makes me feel like it’s meant to be.”
At the end of the video, Hamaguchi got even closer to confirming the full trilogy for Switch 2: “With the Final Fantasy 7 remake series coming to Switch 2, I’d be so happy if two generations could connect and share a bond over the characters.” Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is still only on PS5 for consoles, but it sounds like a Switch 2 version might be in the works. Imagine playing Queen’s Blood on the go!
This does make you wonder, though—what about Xbox? And what does this mean for part three of the trilogy? Will it stick to PlayStation first, or might we see it launch on other platforms at the same time? This all ties into Square Enix’s new multiplatform approach they started pushing hard in 2024, after Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy 16 didn’t sell as well as hoped.
And here’s another thought: since Final Fantasy 7 is the bigger name, could Final Fantasy 16 also make its way to Switch 2 down the road? As for the third part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake series, producer Yoshinori Kitase said earlier this year that the story is done, but we still don’t know when it’ll come out—or which platforms it’ll be on.
What do you think about the FF7 series on Switch 2? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
