A new PassMark benchmark leak suggested AMD’s Ryzen 7 9700X3D, an 8-core/16-thread Zen 5 CPU with 96 MB L3 cache and a 5.8 GHz boost, was on the way as a mid-range gaming refresh. It scored 4,687 single-thread and 40,438 multi-thread points—1-5% ahead of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
Update: It’s confirmed fake! A Redditor spoofed the results by editing /proc/cpuinfo on Linux to make a Ryzen 7 9700X appear as 9700X3D—PassMark added it without checking. The impossible 5.8 GHz boost (higher than 9800X3D) was a red flag.
Rumored X3D Lineup Still Possible at CES 2026
Despite the hoax, AMD is expanding X3D:
- Ryzen 7 9850X3D: 120W, 8C/16T, 96 MB L3, 5.6 GHz boost.
- Ryzen 9 9950X3D2: 200W, 16C/32T, 192 MB L3 (dual cache), 5.6 GHz.
- Ryzen 5 7500X3D: 65W, 6C/12T, 96 MB L3.

CES 2026 could bring announcements.
