Swissbit, a top name in storage and security solutions, just launched the iShield Key 2—the latest in their line of hardware authenticators. Powered by an NXP chip, this new family of devices offers phishing-resistant authentication for businesses and public organizations worldwide, with a variety of models and features to choose from.
At its heart, the iShield Key 2 follows the FIDO2 standard, making passwordless logins easy with room for up to 300 Passkeys. The Pro versions go further, adding HOTP and TOTP for one-time passwords and PIV for smart card use. The standout iShield Key 2 MIFARE model even mixes digital and physical access control into one handy device, perfect for securing both IT systems and places like buildings or printing areas. For those needing the highest security, there’s a FIPS 140-3 Level 3 certified option. All models come in a tough, lightweight casing, designed and made at Swissbit’s facility in Berlin, Germany.

A Flexible Range for Every Need
The iShield Key 2 launches with USB-C options, with USB-A versions coming by the end of Q2 2025. Every model supports NFC for contactless use. You’ll find three main types: iShield Key 2, iShield Key 2 MIFARE, and iShield Key 2 FIPS, each with a basic FIDO2-only version or a Pro version with HOTP, TOTP, and PIV. This variety lets organizations pick the perfect fit for their needs.
More Than Just Digital Access
Thanks to NXP’s smart chip tech, the iShield Key 2 MIFARE uses DESFire EV3, blending digital and physical access smoothly. It fits right into daily tasks and works with custom MIFARE apps—like tracking time, paying at the cafeteria, or using campus ID cards. Swissbit also offers support for popular access tech like HID SEOS and LEGIC advant/LEGIC neon, making it easy to add to existing systems.
Top-Notch Security
All iShield Key 2 models are FIDO-certified and work with OpenSC for open smart card support. For strict compliance needs, the FIPS 140-3 Level 3 version meets the highest security standards. There are also Enterprise Attestation variants, letting companies limit access to only their verified keys.
Stay Up to Date
Every iShield Key 2 can get remote updates through secure channels, so you can add new firmware or apps to devices already in use.

“With the iShield Key 2, we’re bringing a versatile security key that handles today’s digital needs and raises the bar for physical access control,” said Claus Gründel, General Manager of Security Solutions at Swissbit. “This line is a big step forward in authentication tech, giving our customers plenty of flexibility and control over their security setup.”
