Samsung Electronics has expanded its 9100 PRO SSD series, the latest addition to its consumer storage lineup, with two new 8 TB models: the 9100 PRO 8 TB and the 9100 PRO 8 TB with Heatsink. Launched alongside the earlier 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB versions in March, these high-capacity drives mark Samsung’s biggest PCIe SSD yet. Designed for gamers, content creators, and professionals needing top-tier speed and reliability, they build on the 9100 PRO’s PCIe 5.0 interface, offering seamless multitasking and broad compatibility with laptops, gaming PCs, and consoles.

The 8 TB variants deliver impressive performance, with sequential read speeds up to 14,800 MB/s and write speeds up to 13,400 MB/s, plus random read and write speeds of up to 2,200K IOPS and 2,600K IOPS. This makes them perfect for heavy workloads. Both models feature ultra-low latency and reduced load times, ensuring smooth gameplay even in demanding settings. The Heatsink version adds enhanced thermal management for sustained performance during long sessions.

These drives offer a massive storage boost, holding about 80 popular PC games based on an average size of 90.6 GB, calculated from Steam’s “Best of 2024: New Releases” top titles. With the PCIe 5.0 interface, they double the speed of the previous PCIe 4.0 generation, boasting a 99% performance leap over the 990 PRO (e.g., 14,800 MB/s read vs. 7,450 MB/s on the 4 TB models). Power efficiency is up 49% thanks to advanced heat management, with the 2 TB model hitting 1,822 / 1,703 MB/s per Watt compared to the 990 PRO’s 1,221 / 1,255 MB/s per Watt. The 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB models come with an 8.8mm heatsink meeting PCI-SIG D8 standards, while the 8 TB’s 11.25mm Heatsink is tailored for PlayStation 5 compatibility.
The 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB models are already available at Samsung.com and other retailers, with the 8 TB versions hitting shelves mid-September. MSRP prices are £781.49 for the 8 TB M.2 model and £796.99 for the 8 TB with Heatsink, reflecting Samsung’s push to meet modern computing demands.
