Rockstar Games has announced another delay for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI), pushing the release to November 19, 2026—six months later than the previous May 26, 2026 date. The studio cited the need for extra polish, stating, “These extra months will allow us to finish the game with the high level of polish players expect and deserve.”
Originally targeting Fall 2025, this marks the third delay for the highly anticipated open-world sequel set in Leonida (a fictional Florida) and modern-day Vice City. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick remains confident, noting it stays within the fiscal year and praising Rockstar’s perfectionism.

The news comes amid recent layoffs at Rockstar, where 30-40 employees across UK and Canada offices were fired for “gross misconduct” involving sharing confidential info in public forums. The Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) accuses Rockstar of union-busting, claiming the affected workers were union members or organizers. Rockstar denies this, insisting the firings were unrelated to union activities.
Protests have erupted outside Rockstar North and Take-Two offices, with fired staff demanding reinstatement and back pay. Rockstar cites past leaks, like the 2022 GTA VI footage breach, as justification.
Despite the controversy, Take-Two reports strong Q2 results, with GTA V surpassing 220 million units sold. Zelnick emphasized, “We’ve never regretted delays in retrospect.”
GTA VI remains one of gaming’s most anticipated titles. What do you think about the delay and layoffs? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
