FX has greenlit a TV adaptation of Ubisoft’s Far Cry video game franchise, developed by Noah Hawley (Fargo, Alien: Earth) and Rob Mac (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Welcome to Wrexham), with Mac set to star. The anthology series will stream on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally.
Like the games, each season will feature a fresh story, cast, and setting, exploring humanity’s chaotic side through big action. Hawley said, “What I love about Far Cry is it’s an anthology. Each game is a variation on a theme, the same way each season of Fargo is. To create a big action show that can change year to year, while digging into humanity through this wild lens, is a dream come true. I’m excited to partner with Rob and bring our shared irreverent, ambitious vibe to the screen.”
Mac added, “Getting to work alongside Noah Hawley is a dream realized. Ubisoft has been remarkably generous, entrusting us with one of the most iconic video-game worlds ever created. And through it all, my FX family continues to lift me up with their constant belief and support.”
FX Entertainment president Nick Grad praised the duo: “FX has had magnificent partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a combined six series and 32 seasons of television, and we couldn’t be more excited that they are teaming up for Far Cry. I have no doubt they will tell this story in a way that is original, gripping, and wildly entertaining.”
Mac, who previously worked with Ubisoft on Mythic Quest, will executive produce through More Better Productions, alongside Hawley’s 26 Keys, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Ubisoft Film & Television. Plot details are under wraps, but the format honors the games’ standalone adventures.
This joins other game adaptations like The Last of Us and Fallout, with Hawley fresh off Alien: Earth and Mac from Sunny‘s 17th season and Wrexham‘s Emmy-winning run.
What do you think about this Far Cry series? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
