Hey, big news for Death Stranding fans—the live-action movie we’ve been waiting for just got a director, and it’s sounding awesome!
According to Deadline, Michael Sarnoski, the guy who directed the super popular A Quiet Place: Day One, is now set to write and direct the Death Stranding movie. It’s based on the hit video game by Hideo Kojima, and A24 and Kojima Productions are teaming up to make it happen.
If you haven’t played Death Stranding, it came out in 2019 and was created by the gaming legend Hideo Kojima. It’s got some big names doing voice and motion capture, like Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley. Pretty cool lineup, right?
The movie was first announced back in 2023, and Kojima shared that it’s not just going to copy the game. He said it’ll be something fresh that’ll appeal to both gamers and anyone who loves movies. He also mentioned last year that this film is one of a few Death Stranding projects he’s working on. Apparently, he wrote a different story for a movie but doesn’t have time to direct it himself. Busy guy!
Sarnoski just finished working on another A24 movie called Death of Robin Hood, with stars like Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe. In that one, Jackman plays a Robin Hood who’s looking back on his life of crime.
We don’t have a release date for the Death Stranding movie yet, but I’m already excited to see how this turns out. What do you think?
