Imagine this: at 2:17 a.m., every child in Mrs. Gandy’s class wakes up, gets out of bed, walks downstairs, opens the front door, steps into the darkness—and never comes back. That’s the chilling setup for the new trailer of Weapons, a horror movie from Barbarian director Zach Cregger. It hits theaters on August 8, 2025, and you can watch the official trailer now!
Here’s the scoop from New Line Cinema: “When all but one child from the same class mysteriously disappear at the exact same time on the same night, a community is left wondering who—or what—is behind it.”

Much like Barbarian, Cregger’s new movie keeps things mysterious, and this trailer doesn’t give away much. It just teases the start of a creepy mystery that’ll pull you in. “That mystery will keep you hooked for at least half the movie, but that’s not the whole story,” Cregger shared with Entertainment Weekly. “The movie will take twists and turns, shift in wild ways, and head into completely new territory. It doesn’t forget the mystery, don’t worry, but by the middle, things get way crazier than you’d expect.”
Cregger added, “I wanted to make a big horror epic, and I gave it my all. It’s more ambitious than Barbarian in almost every way—not just the budget, but the story itself. It’s weirder, twistier, and just bigger. The big scenes are on another level. It’s a larger, stranger movie than Barbarian.”
Here’s a fun hint: Cregger’s two horror films might even share the same universe! Want to dig deeper into the mystery? Check out MaybrookMissing.com.
The movie stars some big names, like Josh Brolin (Dune 2), Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel), Alden Ehrenreich (Cocaine Bear), Benedict Wong (3 Body Problem), Amy Madigan (Antlers), Austin Abrams (Euphoria), and Cary Christopher (Days of Our Lives).
Cregger wrote and directed Weapons, and he’s also producing it with Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules, while Michelle Morrissey and Josh Brolin are executive producers. His creative team includes cinematographer Larkin Seiple, production designer Tom Hammock, editor Joe Murphy, and costume designer Trish Sommerville, with music by Ryan Holladay, Hays Holladay, and Zach Cregger.
New Line Cinema, along with Subconscious, Vertigo Entertainment, and Boulderlight Pictures, presents Weapons, a Zach Cregger film. It’ll be in theaters and IMAX across the U.S. on August 8, 2025, and will roll out internationally starting in August 2025, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
