Big news for gaming fans—Ghost of Yōtei finally has a release date! Sony Entertainment announced today that the game is coming out on October 2, and for now, it’ll be exclusive to the PlayStation 5. They also shared details about some special editions that are up for grabs. Pre-orders start on May 2 at 10:00 AM, and if you pre-order, you’ll get seven PSN avatars featuring Atsu and the Yōtei Six, plus an in-game mask cosmetic. The base game costs $69.99, while the $79.99 Digital Deluxe Edition includes the full game, four cosmetic unlocks, and early access to the Travelers Map. If you want something fancier, the Collector’s Edition is packed with cool physical items like a replica of Atsu’s mask, a sash, tsuba, art cards, a zeni hajiki coin game with a pouch, and a papercraft ginkgo tree—plus all the digital extras from the Deluxe Edition. That bundle will set you back $249.99.

Sucker Punch also dropped a new trailer for Ghost of Yōtei, showing off the game’s villains, the Yōtei Six, and their brutal attack on Atsu’s people, which sets up her quest for revenge. We don’t know yet when the game might come to PC or other consoles, but some guesses point to 2027 as the earliest for a wider release. This sequel to Ghost of Tsushima might also be part of a bigger universe, with rumors of TV and movie spin-offs in the works.
Even with its heavy story, Ghost of Yōtei gives you the freedom to track down the Yōtei Six in any order you like. The game also focuses a lot on exploration, letting you roam Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido) however you want and set up camp anywhere at night for shelter.
The story, called “The Onryō’s List,” goes back 16 years to Ezo, where the Yōtei Six—a gang of outlaws—took everything from Atsu. They killed her family and left her pinned to a burning ginkgo tree, thinking she was done for. But Atsu survived. She learned how to fight, hunt, and kill, and now she’s back with a list of six names: The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito.
Atsu is hunting them down one by one with the same katana they used against her, determined to get revenge for her family. But as she journeys through Ezo, she’ll meet unexpected allies and build new connections that give her a fresh sense of purpose beyond just vengeance. What do you think about Atsu’s story? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
