It’s no surprise that Windows 10 will stop getting support on October 14, 2025. As Microsoft prepares to say goodbye to this operating system, they’re really hoping users will switch to Windows 11 soon. The challenge? More people are still using Windows 10 than Windows 11, and getting them to make the move hasn’t been easy.
At first, Microsoft gently suggested picking up a Windows 11 device before the deadline. Then, with the launch of Copilot+ devices, they gave those a big push too. Now, they’re being more direct, warning that sticking with Windows 10 puts you on the “wrong side of risk” if you don’t upgrade.
Microsoft Steps Up the Pressure
As noted by Windows Central, Microsoft recently posted a video on its Windows YouTube channel. It kicks off with a reminder: “Security updates for Windows 10 end on October 14, 2025.” The message is clear—upgrade to a Windows 11 PC now to stay safe. The video also highlights some of Windows 11’s security perks.
Not everyone’s thrilled, though. YouTube comments show mixed reactions, with the top one at the time of writing saying, “Using the end of support for your old system to sell a new one is pretty wild.” Others are asking what to do if their PC can’t run Windows 11 or if they can afford a new machine. There’s also a growing buzz about people considering a switch to Linux. The Linux community has jumped on this, with the End of 10 project helping users move to Linux, and KDE recently welcoming “Windows 10 exiles” with tips on using Plasma to keep older PCs alive.
As we get closer to Windows 10’s end-of-support date, it looks like a big competition will heat up between Microsoft and Linux, both trying to win over those still using the older system. As for me, I’ve already decided what I’m doing!
What do you think about upgrading or switching? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
